ABOUT ME

I am married and have two grown up sons. I have been through a divorce, have been widowed and like most people,  have been well and truly challenged along the way. I feel my life experience supports my training and helps me to be with clients in a non-judgemental, compassionate and supportive way.

I qualified as a Counsellor in 1996 with the Oasis School of Human Relations in Boston Spa, Wetherby.  Initially I worked exclusively for Goldsborough Healthcare then for BUPA as a staff counsellor. Since 1998 I have been in private practice.

I have been retained by and have undertaken work on behalf of many organisations including:
Mid Yorks NHS Trust,
Wakefield Met. Council
Jeremy Kyle Show
Fox's Biscuits
A law firm in the USA
A major building contractor in the UK
Various Call Centres in the West Yorkshire area.
Oasis School of Human Relations, Wetherby. (Employee Assistance Programme)
The Prince's Trust
Several major charities in the UK
Several minor charities in the UK.
........and several other large corporate clients.

ABOUT THE SERVICE

No two clients are the same and therefore no two resolutions will be the same either.   I currently offer a range of possible interventions

Personal Development work including mentoring and coaching

 Reiki healing
Shamanic Counselling ( please note: Shamanic Counselling is a spiritual way and is not a form of psychotherapy.)

I am constantly studying to extend my portfolio of therapies so that I can offer an even broader service to my clients.

My practice is mainly Integrative, Cognitive and/or Transpersonal and I can also work Person-Centred.  I have worked with clients who have presented in various ways over the years, for instance those coping with:

 Change, loss, bereavement, grief
 Depression. anxiety, stress
 Effects of being bullied
Low self-esteem, inability to be assertive, lack of confidence
 Post traumatic stress symptoms.
Effects in adulthood of childhood abuse, sexual, physical, or emotional.
Relationship crisis, e.g. dealing with desertion, infidelity, divorce, separation etc.
 Family crises
 Mind in turmoil
 Managing redundancy
 Anger management
 Loss of motivation
Loss of interest in life or family
Totally disorganised, desire to be focussed
Dealing with serious illness in self or a loved one
Chronic tiredness (with no apparent medical cause)
 Male impotence
 Obsessions
 ............and many more

I work one-to-one with adults, with couples, and with groups.

However, I do not specialise in substance abuse or drug related issues. In such instances you can find help through your G.P.  or specialist agencies, details of which can be found in the phone book or on line.

WHY COUNSELLING ?

Why counselling? Perhaps one of the following is familiar to you.

"I really should be coping, other people do!"

"Why me? Why does everything happen to me?"

"I do everything I can to help people but they never appreciate me!"

"Why is my life such a mess?"

"Why do I feel angry all the time? I don't mean to snap and hurt people's feelings! I'm a nice person really!"

"Perhaps I'm going mad, no, really! I feel I'm out of control!" "I really need to manage my life better!"

It doesn't matter why you feel you need help, and giving yourself a hard time because you're having a crisis won't solve anything.

Suppressing feelings and 'coping' can change a personality, can make life anxiety-ridden or chronically flat.

Adults who were abused as children (physically, emotionally or sexually) canbe helped to heal and take control of their lives again.

Some feelings or issues need only one or two sessions of therapy to help bring about change. Some do need longer.

Just as no two people are the same, no two 'resolutions' will be, either.

Everyone is very special.

Give me a call on 01924 400148 if you want to make changes in your life.

         Very sincerely,

         Cathie

HOW TO CHOOSE A THERAPIST

a) One way is to visit the BACP* website and click on 'Seeking a Therapist'. Even if you have already identified a therapist, perhaps by personal recommendation, you can check their qualifications, specialisms etc..

b) Ring them and assess if you feel you could work with them. Don't be afraid to speak to one or two and choose the one you feel most comfortable with.

c) Often it is possible to get a quick appointment, but sometimes there might be a slight delay before a busy therapist can fit you in. It's up to you to decide if you can afford to wait or if you need to see somebody immediately. But remember, a busy therapist is busy because they are popular and this usually means they are good!
